NRDCA - LWIC Contractors Accreditation Program

The NRDCA announces the availability of the NRDCA Lightweight Insulating Concrete Roof Deck Contractors (LWIC) Accreditation Program. The NRDCA has issued the document titled "Lightweight Insulating Concrete Roof Deck Contractor Accreditation Program Standard". The intent of this standard is to establish industry wide criteria for the Accreditation of contractors who apply Lightweight Insulating Concrete Roof Decks. It also provides for an initial audit, periodic field quality assurance audits, and record maintenance audits by Field Service personnel of Underwriters Laboratories Inc.

A contractor may become a NRDCA Accredited LWIC Contractor by completing the following criteria.

  • Employ a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) who has supervisory responsibility for the installation of Lightweight Insulating Concrete Roof Decks.
    • The DRI must complete the following activities:
    • Pass a classroom test that includes questions on all NRDCA LWIC Guidelines and Procedures, UL Fire Resistance Directory, and FM Approval Guide and Data Sheets.
    • Attend a NRDCA Field Training Program on the application of LWIC.
    • Complete three Continuing Educational Units every two years.
    • Maintain a documented and archived record keeping system for LWIC installations.
  • Develop and receive NRDCA approval for a quality control manual that establishes contractor procedures for control of LWIC installations and record keeping.
  • Successfully complete an Initial Audit and ongoing Maintenance Audits performed by Underwriters Laboratories Inc.

Once this process is completed, the contractor will receive a Trademarked NRDCA Accreditation Seal. The Seal will appear on the NRDCA web site opposite the contractor's name.

The NRDCA is pleased with the involvement of Underwriters Laboratories Inc. in this program. We look upon this program as a means to help raise the professional installation of Lightweight Insulating Concrete Roof Deck Systems.
